Participation of the official Ukrainian delegation in the XIX Apislavia CongressThe second day of the XIX Apislavia Congress – 21 September – began at the Congress Center of the Agricultural University of Lublin.

The Agricultural University is one of the most powerful institutions of higher education in Poland. More than 40 thousand students have already received a higher education at the university. At the university students study in over 15 specialties. The university has more than 800 scientists and teachers.

The Scientific Conference of the XIX Apislavia Congress was held at this University. Scientists and students of the University participated in the scientific program of the Congress. Dr. Marek Khmelevsky, scientist and teacher of the University, was one of the most active speakers at the Congress Scientific Conferences.

On September 21, a plenary meeting of the Scientific Conference “Modern Apitherapy” was held at the Congress-center of the Agricultural University of Lublin. The following issues were covered:

  • Apitherapy in modern medicine, prospects of development.
  • Therapeutic action of honey and their practical use in medicine.
  • Perga and bee pollen-natural finest growth regulators and immunomodulators.
  • Use of royal jelly in the modern treatment.
  • Propolis in the prevention and treatment of diseases.
  • Honey and bee products in reproductive medicine.
  • Preparation women for pregnancy: how can help the honey and bee products.
  • Apitherapy in modern preventive medicine-missed opportunities for medicine and
  • beekeeping.

The official Ukrainian delegation was at full strength at the conference. The meeting was also attended by the President of Apimondia Gilles Ratia (France), the Chairman of the Apimondia Commission in Europe Philip McCabe (Ireland). Polish scientists, graduate students and representatives of Polish business organizations, delegates from Belarus, Latvia and Kazakhstan have also listened with interest to speakers.

Moderator at the plenary session was Dr. Arkadiusz Kapliński.

Dr. Arkadiusz Kapliński and his fellow doctors and scientists dealing with apitherapy, provided participants with information on the apitherapy implementation in Polish doctors’ medical practice, demonstrated scientific developments and practical achievements. Dr. Arkadiusz Kapliński’s presentation concerned the use of bee products for pregnant women. Doctor also devoted much time to inform participants about the use of pollen and cerago in medicine and nutrition. Professor Ryszard Czarnecki spoke about the use of propolis, Professor Bogdan Kędzia in his presentation paid attention on the use of royal jelly in the initial stages of therapy, Dr. Jan Giza told about bee venom. Perhaps, Ukrainian delegates did not fully understand some points of the reports, because the speakers spoke Polish. But Dr. Arkadiusz Kapliński and interpreter Kateryna Idyartova have made every effort in order to ensure mutual understanding between speakers and listeners.

The President of the Crimean NGO “Union of apitherapeutists and beekeepers of Crimea” (APAC) Viktor Ovsyanik presented all the speakers and participants of the conference with his books. On the first day of the XIX Apislavia Congress, at the Opening Ceremony he gave the same presents to the President of Apimondia Gilles Ratia, the Chairman of the Apimondia Commission in Europe Philip McCabe, the President of Apislavia Tadeusz Sabat, the Vice-President of Apislavia Cristian Constantinescu, all heads of beekeeping associations of European countries, leading Polish scientists and public and political figures of Poland.

During the plenary conference session Dr. Arkadiusz Kapliński noticed a huge contribution of Mr. Viktor Ovsyanik’s works to the promotion and the official integrating apitherapy into medical practice of Ukrainian physicians, thanked him for the books and wished inspiration and success in his work.

The products installation of various companies and firms engaged in the processing of bee products, honey packaging and manufacturing drinking honey was arranged for delegates of the XIX Apislavia Congress — participants of the conference in the lobby of the Congress Center of the Agricultural University of Lublin. Ukrainian beekeepers-delegates had a very interesting conversation at the University, at the presentation of this company with the representatives of one of these companies, namely representatives of “Apis”.

In the afternoon, the Ukrainian delegation arrived to Pszczela Wola. A fair of beekeeping equipment, beekeeping products and related materials of producers from Poland and other countries was held at the stadium of the Beekeeping College. This fair is an event that is held every year as part of the All-Polish Beekeepers’ Days organized by the Polish Beekeeping Association (PZP). And this year, the fair was held during the celebration of the XXX All-Polish Beekeepers’ Days in Pszczela Wola (22-23 September 2012).

Several companies from Russia, Belarus and Lithuania also participated in the fair.

Polish company “Łysoń” (Sułkowice) was well presented at the fair. The “Łysoń” presented to the participants, visitors and the delegates of the XIX Apislavia Congress hives from foam plastic in six systems; honey extractors in a wide range, from 2-comb ones to 18-comb, to the powerful ones, coming up to 70 frames of Wielkopolska type; mobile honey extractors; uncapping tables, barrels for honey, honey pumps, various beekeeping tools, a wide range of small bee-keeping equipment. A new company product — the uncapping and loosening system was presented at the fair.

The firm “Ratajczak” (Miłosław) presented at the fair multi frame beehives with various components. Polyurethane beehives were demonstrated by “ApiKoz” (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski). A Wide range of honey extractors was represented by the firm “ANNA” ( Brzeziny). The firm "Adamek“(Gilowice k/Zywca) exhibited a range of clothing for beekeepers at the fair. A well-known company “Babik” (Sułkowice k/Andrychowa) represented polystyrene beehives and many beehive components. The great interest of visitors and buyers was caused by the products of the firm “Trzcinica ZCM” (Trzcinica) — beehives and hive tools, amazing wax products. Interesting products were presented by the firm “7 Miodowych Kontynentów”. One could buy honey from all over the world at this stand. The stand was very popular among visitors, because the firm held a honey tasting, including Manuka honey from New Zealand. A device (decorated in imitation of a bee) used for the propolis treatment by inhalation was also presented at the stand. The company “Miodoland” (Pruchnik) exhibited its range of beehives and excellent honey at the fair. Beekeepers could buy beekeeping tools of a wide range at reasonable prices at the stand of the firm “UL — MET (Zielonki). Undoubtedly, a lot of interest was caused by the company “Apis” (Lublin). Its wide range of products was presented at the exhibition. A dozen kinds of honey and mead produced by the company “Apis” is a worthy representation of Polish honey drinks. The company exhibited its honey and mead for tasting. Packings of all company products impress with its originality.

The beekeeping farm SOCHA (Czmon) offered honey, farina and wax. The company “CD SA” (Bielsko-Biala) offered a wide range of different honey in the original packaging. The company “Biowet Pulawy Ltd.” (Pulawy) was represented at a special exposition. The firm offers 50 products in the market providing disease prevention, treatment and care of the animals. During more than 89 years, preparations produced in Pulawy, influenced the fight with and control of such dangerous diseases as tuberculosis, brucellosis, Newcastle disease, varroatosis of bees. The medications are produced by using the latest equipment that guarantees the highest quality of veterinary drugs manufactured at the firm. At the exhibition the company “Biowet Pulawy Ltd.” offered preparations Biowar 500 (strips to hang in the hive — the active ingredient Amitraz 500 mg.), Apiwarol (fumigation tablets to diagnose varroatosis and deal with it — the active component — Amitraz 12.5 mg.). The company “Lankoff S.C.” (Kielce) offered its products — manual and electric rollers for wax producing. Ukrainian beekeepers- members of the Ukrainian delegation also visited a stand of the beekeeping farm “Sadecki Bartnik”. “Sadecki Bartnik” is a family company of Anna and Janusz Kashtelevych, founded in 1973 in Struzha. Today “Sadecki Bartnik” is not only a producer of excellent drinking honey and different varieties of honey. This company provides beekeeping knowledge at organized conferences and seminars. Beekeepers have an opportunity to purchase the necessary equipment. A breeding work is conducted at the apiaries. The firm regularly represents its achievements at Apimondia Congresses. The Ukrainian delegation also visited the stand of the Beekeeping College in Pszczela Wola. College Students told about their studying and achievements. An interesting conversation took place at the Russian stand “Altai. Starover. ”

All stands of the companies mentioned above were visited by the Organizing Committee of the XXXXIII International Apimondia Congress to attract companies to participate in the Congress. Serhiy Pidmohylnyi, director of the travel company “Terra Incognito” — partner of the Organizing Committee, told the heads of the companies present at the exhibition about interesting Tourist Program of the Congress in Ukraine, opportunity to visit beekeeping farms and enterprises successfully working in Ukraine.

The stand of the Organizing Committee was presented at the exhibition. Visitors, participants and guests could get the information about the Congress Apimondia 2013, to talk with the President and members of the Organizing Committee of the Congress.

Ukrainian beekeepers had an opportunity to see many interesting things at the exhibition, listen to a wonderful concert, to take part in numerous tastings, to enjoy delicious Polish cuisine. After visiting the exhibition, members of the official Ukrainian delegation went to the hotel “Focus” (Lublin), where they had a delicious dinner and talk, shared impressions until midnight. And the heads of the delegation were invited to a dinner hosted by Apislavia leadership for the heads of Apimondia, heads of European beekeeping organizations, foreign guests, representatives of Polish beekeeping companies and enterprises, heads of regional beekeeping associations. At a dinner they had a conversation, shared impressions with each other.
