World Honey Championship 2013 Takes The Best From the World’s Oldest Honey Contest

World Honey Championship 2013 Takes The Best From the World’s Oldest Honey Contest The 81th National Honey Show, that have been held in London between 25 and 27 October, continues the tradition established back in 1923. It’s the oldest, most sophisticated and the stricktest beekeeping contest in the world.

Ukrainian presence at this prestigious competition started 4 years ago, when our delegation won 15 awards, including 2 cups. The next year we almost repeated this success, scoring 9 prizes and established a 10-year Medal of Ukraine, awarded to the best honey from outside of British Isles. The first Medal of Ukraine went to Mauritius in 2010, the second was not awarded and the third had been won by the honay from royal apiaries of Oman.

This year main task of Ukrainian delegation in London has been to discuss the rules and regulations of the World Honey Championship, which is taking place within the 43rd Apimondia Congress in Kyiv, September-October 2013. Three experienced representatives of the National Honey Show have agreed to consult our Organizing committee: the Show Secretary Reverend Francis Capener, multiple Hamlin Cup winner and many-years honey judge Norman Walsh and National Honey Show judges’ referree Margaret Davies. The British experts have praised the idea to use international panel of judges representing all 5 continents, as well as to separate commercial and individual classes at the World Honey Championship. Margaret Davies has agreed to take the judges referree position at the Congress.

Guests of the London Show have expressed huge interest to Apimodia. We expect at least an 80-strong delegation from the Brtitish isles!

And the medal of Ukraine this year went to Mr. Pierre Sanders from Netherlands. Congratulations to the winner!

The applications for the World Honey Championship will open at December 1st.
