Ukrainian honey and hopak in Buenos Aires

Ukraine officially received the baton of the World Beekeeping Congress.

The official delegation of the Organizing Committee consisting of 5 members just returned from the city of Buenos Aires (Argentina), where the 42nd World Beekeeping Congress was held from21 to 27 September. Ukraine was represented by:

In total, the 42nd Apimondia Congress was attended by more than 8 500 of participants, including more than 3 000 registered full delegates.

According to the report of the Secretary-General of Apimondia Riccardo Jannoni-Sebastianini, the Congress was attended by 70 beekeeping associations representing 48 countries.

The main task of the Ukrainian delegation was the start of an international campaign to promote the next 43rd Apimondia Congress to be held in autumn 2013 in Kyiv. It will be the largest international event in Ukraine after UEFA EURO 2012. From the first day of the Congress a number of negotiations and meetings were held at the Ukrainian Apimondia 2013 stand. We were impressed by the number of applicants wishing to book a stand at the ApiExpo-2013 in advance. Results of preliminary reservation showed that Kyiv should expect large delegations from Poland, China, Russia, Denmark, Turkey, Korea and many other countries.

The Scientific Conference of the 42nd Apimondia Congress held under the slogan “Towards sustainable beekeeping, which encourages the development” received a record number of applications — more than 1000! Ukraine was represented by two reports “The Carpathian bees of Ukraine” (V. Haidar, S. Kerek, I. Mertsyn) presented by Stepan Kerek in section “Bee Biology”, and “Beekeeping and Apitherapy in Ukraine” presented by Yuriy Riphyak in section “Apitherapy”. In addition, 5 scientific works of Ukrainian authors were included in the program in the form of posters. Authors: B. Haydar, P. Khmara (2 posters), L. Sheremet and O. Tykhonov.

Yuriy Riphyak also participated in the round table “The world beekeeping” with a presentation on the current state of the industry in Ukraine.

In the evening, on September 22, the Ukrainian delegation held a reception in honor of the Executive Committee of Apimondia, heads of beekeeping associations and participants of ApiExpo-2011. A rich cultural program was made possible by the Central Ukrainian Representation in Ukraine. It is also worth noting the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Argentina in the person of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Oleksandr Taranenko and the Head of trade and economic mission Yuriy Krutovertsev.

On September 5, during the Closing Ceremony of the 42nd International Beekeeping Congress, the President of Apimondia Gilles Ratia handed a collar of the Congress President to Tetyana Vasylkivska. It contains 42 plates engraved with places and dates of all previous Congresses. Then participants of the Ukrainian Dance Ensemble in Buenos Aires came on the stage. They welcomed all the Congress guests with traditional Ukrainian bread and salt.

The 42nd International Apicultural Congress concluded with a fiery hopak.
