Press conference “Ukraine will become the largest honeyland in Europe”

A press conference entitled “Ukraine will become the largest honeyland in Europe” was held at the Ukrainian Information Agency UNIAN on Monday, September 28, 2009. At the press conference Tetyana Vasylkivska informed that at the 41st International Congress of the International Federation of Beekeepers’ Associations Apimondia held on 15–20 September in Montpellier (France), Ukraine has won the right to host the World Forum in Kyiv in 2013.

During the voting Ukraine received 93 votes out of 165 possible. According to Mrs. Vasylkivska, the 43rd Apimondia Congress, which Kyiv will host after EURO 2012 may become the biggest international specialized congress in the history of Ukraine. About 12 thousand visitors from all over the world are expected to attend this event. Leonid Bodnarchuk noted that Ukraine is among the five biggest honey producers of the world. Yuriy Riphyak said that the right to host the Apimondia Congress will become an impetus to attract investments in the beekeeping industry.  According to him, the Congress organizers plan to raise funds from domestic and foreign investors. 

Mrs. Vasylkivska informed that at the Congress Ukrainian buckwheat honey has won the official title of the Best Honey in the World.
